The Hearing Co. Quick Start Guide

It means the absolute world to us that you’re able to fully enjoy your hearing aids. Which is exactly why we put this quick guide together to make sure your new hearing aids are set up perfectly before you start using them!

We’ve made sure to make the following guide quick and easy to understand, so please make sure to follow all 3 steps before using your hearing aids for the first time.

Step #1: Fully Charge Your Hearing Aids

Before going into any of the following steps, please make sure your hearing aids are fully charged.

All you have to do is connect your charging cable to a power source (charging cube, portable charger, or even a computer) and let your hearing aids charge until the blue light changes to green - indicating they’re fully charged.

One important thing to note is that our hearing aids are pre-charged before they ship, so your first at-home charge may only take a few minutes.

Step #2: Choose The Right Sized Ear Dome

By far the most important part of wearing hearing aids is using the right sized dome. Using a dome that's either too large or too small will give you an uncomfortable fit and possibly create lots of feedback.

So please try all 4 sizes of ear domes, starting off with the smallest size and the moving all the way up to the largest. Once you find which fits you best, please only wear that size.

If you’re having trouble removing and attaching your ear domes, we have an in-depth tutorial on our website at https://thehearing.co/pages/bte-rechargeable-video-tutorials

If you’d prefer to call us, we’re available by telephone at +1 (437) 292-3801

Step #3: Make Sure You're Wearing Them Correctly

Once you've found what dome fits you best, it's time to make sure you're wearing your new BTE hearing aids correctly. If you aren't, there's a good chance they'll "wiggle" around, produce feedback, get in the way of glasses or cause other annoying issues.

Below is a video of what the "perfect" fit should look like. The three most important parts are 1. making sure the earpiece is far enough into your ear canal 2. the wire coming out of the earpiece is pointing upwards and 3. the wire is snugly tucked between the top of your ear and your head, while the rest of the wire stays as close to your skin as possible. The video below shows this best!

After you get your BTE hearing aids fitting perfectly, they'll stay in place securely (& extremely comfortably), let you wear glasses and even hats!

What you don't want, is for your hearing aids to look like the video below, where the wire is awkwardly placed around your ear / is far away from your head, along with the earpiece being halfway out of your ear canal.

Step #4: Use Your Hearing Aids!

You're all good to go! When using your new hearing aids for the first time, please make sure the volume dial is adjusted nearly all the way down (turn the dial downwards).

As you get used to your hearing aids over the next few hours, feel free to adjust the volume up to the point where you’re satisfied with your hearing, but no more - if the volume is set too high, it runs the chance of producing feedback or hurting your ears.
